Phylo, Nuda

Does any one happen to have any Phylostachis (sp) Nuda that they would be willing to part with. I would be happy to pay shipping and reasonable costs.

I had a nice clump growing here in Iowa, and had to leave it when I moved. Now someone else has a nice clump, and I would like to get some going again.

I planted several 1 gallons around this spring so maybe will have spares next year. I'm trying to fill in an area with it.

I wonder what size did nuda get in NE Iowa? So far it hasn't gotten more than 5' tall here.

I started with a clump I bought in Seattle, which had been over 8' on the
longest culms. I had to cut those back to get it in the car. I planted it
in 98, and when I moved in 2001, some had reached 10' in a very well
protected area, on the south side of my house down in a walk out back
basement entry way that had a nice place on the side for the bamboo. In the
winter the snow filled this area level with the ground and the boo was
covered by snow all winter, it did very well in this environment.

I would love a clump in the spring if you have any you can spare.

Nuda kind of looks like what I have if I get a positive id this week I know where ther eis a whole grove of it with an owner begging for people to take more.

Meat, Let me know, I got to KC every now and then. Have a son and grandson that lives there. I could go by and help dig out some of it.

well it looks more like what i have may be bisseti so I was wrong I have a pic posted in the transplant topic. I am debating on goiong back and getting some more plants from that lady this following weekend. It is hard to pass a huge grove up when you know they want you to take as much as you can before they level it.

Bissetii is definitely a good one to try too. Everyone seems to say that it holds up in winter better than Nuda.

Tom, remind me again in spring and I'll see what Nuda might be diving out into the wrong areas to be dug up. Did your nuda get flattened by snow in winter? Is that how it would get completely buried by snow? Thanks.

Tom-- Don't know if you're also interested in P. heteroclada, but I will probably have surplus of these this spring if my seedlings make it thru the winter. They'll be 1-y old this spring and have grown like crazy this summer.

Heteroclada has hardiness close to Nuda FYI....don't believe the 'usual' temperature ratings for either of these species.

Thuja, I'm interested in P. heteroclada. Isn't that one suppose to take wet soil conditions? I'm interested in seedlings because of the fact it'll be decades before they bloom.

Hardiness ratings are hard to calculate. I'm assuming a nuda patch in some one's back yard would have different hardiness than a patch that roamed over a few acres. At least I'm hoping, the bigger the patch, the hardier the plant.

So thuja, if want a good home for any of your baby boos, I'll fill out any adoption papers that are required.

LKZ- ok, I'll keep you in mind when I start dividing these, probably this spring. I'll get the adoption papers ready. :) The water 'boo will definitely like to have a place to roam free. A nice big grove should develop some hardiness once established.

Thuja, if your interested... I have MOSO seedlings to trade for your Nuda. They are 14-16 inches tall and looking great. I have 20-25 ...have not begun seperating them yet. But will do real soon. Interested in a trade?
    email me... clutedad@nc.rr.com
    Thanks

CJ-- I have Moso seedlings too but sure we can trade for something by the time spring comes around. How many acres you have anyway? ;)

Yeah, that is interesting , how many acres do people have to dedicate to this grass?,, let me add that one.
