Very Cold Hardy being relative. Possibly Bambusa vulgaris, but other tropical bamboos are grown down there. Los Angeles State and County Arboretum (Arcadia) and Quail Botanical Gardens (Encinatas) have bamboo collections where you might find a match. You should at least take good photos of the parent clump to have some basis for comparison.

It looks like a Bambusa to me also but I can't identify which one. One comment though, does the taller of the cuttings have a buried node, it is difficult to tell from the picture. The new roots come from the node so it needs to be buried. Also I am not sure if this is a good time for outdoor cuttings even in FL without bottom heat. I have had very limited success with cuttings here in TX and understand from others, more successful than I, that spring is best. In any case, good luck with your cuttings and let us know how they do.

I think is is either Bambusa oldhamii or tuldoides. Both will root from culm cuttings. A node must be below ground level this is where the new roots will form. Even though this may be cold hardy I would protect them through the winter. Both of these varieties grow upright. Good luck Rich

I will try and go my the mother clump and take some pics for a more positive ID.

I understand the lack of heat and the downsides to trying to root these cuttings in winter. Since these cuttings are already started, Ill have to see how they go. If they dont make it through winter, I can go back to my neighbor who has the Mother clump and get some more cuttings.

As far as the nodes, all cuttings (I have four), have at least one node buried.

What kind of plants are in the background pots? Palms?

Kt - You guessed correctly. They are palms (Archontophoenix cunninghamiana, also referred to as a variety of King Palm, Piccabean Palm, as well as sometimes being referred to as Bangalow Palm).
