Vendors that sell Hummels Sunset?

Hey Everyone,

Just wondering if anyone knew any vendors that carried Hummels Sunset and ships (preferrably to MA). I can't seem to find it anywhere...and I don't have any good plants for an exchange. Thanks~

Here's one...but by the time you add shipping, handling and surcharges, its not the cheapest. But I've heard most are satisfied with their purchase.

Here is a link that might be useful: gosucculent.com

    Annie,

You'd likely want to wait until March or April - most post office box areas are unheated and you'd not want your plant/cutting threatened by cold.

That's great advise cactusmcharris gave you. But, just wanted to share an experience a friend had with them a few weeks ago and he lives in MI...he said the plants arrived safely w/NO issues...healthy and no damages. Not to say yours will arrive that way, just depends on how badly you want it now and if you're willing to take the chance? Def. the risk is there. Good luck finding one.

I just ordered one a few weeks back from gosucculent.com. WONDERFUL plants. I ordered in November,I had trouble with entering my credit card, and emailed them, he emailed me that evening and offered to phone me to get the CC number. I missed the email though. I tried again the next day and still some hang up in between his site and my server I assumed since I kept getting some error message. I then went ahead and ordered and said I was sending a check, which the website says it accepts checks. That had changed but he was nice enough to make an exception for me. Would just be a wait while the check cleared which was perfectly fine with me. They got it and cashed it, somehow my order got lost in the shuffle and didn't get shipped. I waited and waited and then I emailed him right after Christmas, He apologized profusely and sent me extra plants. They pack VERY well and in my case I didn't lose so much as a leaf. 4 plants and not one had even a broken leaf! I told them I wouldn't hesitate to order again but next time will wait for warmer weather. LOL

I'd order from them again in a heartbeat! In fact I was just online mooning over some plants yesterday.

Here is mine ( I now wish I'd ordered more than one!)

Check out all vendors that put out a catalogue, Abby Gardens, Laury's, Glasshouse Works, Bob Smoleys, Huntington Botanical Gardens, This is a common plant grown here, shipping is what is going to be expensive, and if you have snow I would not have it shipped now. Wait until the weather is right. It is an African plant and has never seeen snow. The DNA is not programmed for snow. I am holding a plant now, the person missed the last shiping date I need to mail back his postage. Norma

Puglvr - thanks so much for the website! I have to confess...it was your posting on your wacked hummels sunset that made me so intrigued by this particular jade! I can't wait to get them.

cactucmcharris - thanks for the advice! I think i might wait to order...although puglvr said she had a fried who lived in MI that ordered them fine...i'm not home for most of the day..usually don't get home from work until 7 at night sooo it's probably best to wait till warmer weather to order...

nodakgal - your hummels sunset looks really good! can i ask what size you ordered? Sounds like this website is very reliable.

It was the 4 to 5 inch that is $6? I think. Mine was about 6 inches if I remember right.
It was the first time I'd ordered from him and now I really wished I'd have ordered a couple more....oh well spring will be here in 3 months! LOL

    PS Just a headsup!
They have some beautiful sedums and also variegated jades I love too! LOL

I'm so excited! I can't wait to order these...I'm debating whether or not I should order a ton all at once or if I should just order a few, and see how they turn out.

nodakgal - I will definitely check out those two...i've been itching to get my hands on a variegated jade.

It feels like Christmas all over again...or at least christmas shopping. :)

Aznxswtgerl, Please post pics "if" and when you order. Would love to see what you get. Christmas in January...why not?

Puglvr, i definitely will post pictures when i get them! I think i'm going to start with a few crassulas for now and then maybe order some more variety in the summer.

I wish there were nurseries around here that sold more succulents. I guess it's hard to come by a lot of variety up in the northeast... :(

nodakgal, when you ordered did it come in a very large box? I'll probably be ordering 3-4 succulents and I'm debating if i can get it shipped to my office instead, that way the plants are going to be indoors when they are received.

    Thanks!

Nope, not a real large box...I'm trying to remember here and think it was close to the size of the $11.95 Priority boxes you get from the post office. The largest plants were Aeonium Decorum variegata (6+inch)
    Hummel's (6 inch)
    Crassula Capitella (6 inch)
then a Crassula Platyphylla (3-4 inch)
There may still be a post on here "New Plants" where I posted pics of all of them.I don't know how many posts were lost the past few days.

Annie you are making me itch for another order now too! But its to be way below zero here and I don't want to take the chance! Darn it!
I hope you're as happy as I was!
I will wait for pics, can't wait to see what you get!

i'm tempted by the 12" 'specimen' hummels sunset. what does everyone think of the 40 dollar price? too steep?

Didn't someone mention that a heating pad can be requested for cold shipment? Or was that some other order....

    Blut,
that price seems a tad steep...but I'd pay it to have the plant I wanted in my hand. Does the price include shipping? Do you know how thick the trunk will be at that height?

I paid $14 for mine at Exotic Plants in Sacramento.

You might want to go with a smaller plant, and then grow it big this summer (in-ground/raised bed/large container).

    Hey guys,

Apparently we are due in for some snow this week and next, and temps are supposed to fall to the low teens and single digits...given that information, I think i'm going to wait until mid february/ early march to order (it makes me sad that i have to wait that long T_T )

and since shipping is 11.95 (plus additional surcharges if it's a larger plant, i've decided to order a bunch all at once :) i'll keep you posted on the progress of my succulent shopping spree...

blut - i agree with josh...40 is a pretty steep price, but if it's something that you really want, i think the benefits out weigh the costs. I'd love see pics if you plan on getting it.

Blut, Annie...I'm Puglvr's friend from Michigan and I ordered and received 9 crassulas from gosucculents.com in early January...the 7th. No, the owner, Don D. Nuzzo told me that he has never used heat packs and that they were totally unnecessary. He states he's been shipping succulents for 7 years in the dead of winter...to Alaska, Canada, Vermont and, now Michigan...he's never had a problem....as long as the receiver is HOME when the package arrives! He does a nice job packing the plants. I ordered 3 Hummel Sunsets (Gorgeous), 2 C. gollums, a 4-plant clump of Pityphcrassula Platyphylla, one Portulacea v. compacta and 2 Hobbit Majors...all arrived in perfect condition and are doing great. His shipping is EXPENSIVE as he adds on surcharges for the larger plants. I, however, found the order and the cost very worthwhile. My only regret, Blut, is that I didn't order the larger C. Hummel Sunsets. The plants are stunning and certainly brighten these ugly winter days here in Michigan. Hope this helps!! Fondly, Patrick

Hi Patrick, thanks for sharing your experience with us about this vendor. Its always good to hear feed backs from personal experiences, especially when someone is ordering from a vendor for the first time. You certainly picked some beautiful plants.

Blut, would love to pics if you decide to purchase.

Hi Patrick, thanks for letting us know about ur purchase, I'm definitely going to buy some now...and hopefully my office's mailroom won't mind accepting these hahah...

Do you know how long it took to reach you? I'll probably add one or two more days since i'm more east :)

    I've narrowed down my list:

    Hummels Sunset
    Crassula Arborescens
    Hobbit
    Portulacaria Afra-Variegata
    Portulacea V Compacta
    Sedum Rubrotinctum (Aurora)
    Crassula Variegata "F"
    Crassula Platyphylla

And you're right...the shipping is wicked expensive! Sigh...i guess i'll need to limit the purchases from now on...
Does the owner include pots with the plants or should i start stocking up on some :D

Can't wait for them to come!!!

Annie...it took 3 days from California to Michigan...I would expect it'd take the equivalent time to your office. Don sent mine in pots...the tiniest pots I've ever seen!!! Plan on repotting them soon, the plants do not stand up in these small pots..unless you lean them against something. I encourage you to consider one or two of the Gollums...very beautiful...similar to the Hobbit, but much more colourful and significantly larger in size...on small trunks. I ordered two of each & find the Gollum much nicer. Best wishes, Patrick

Hey patrick, that's a pretty quick turnaround..i may have to wait till the weekend to put in an order so that it arrives during the week... I've actually planned on ordering the C. Hobbit (which i think is different from the Hobbit Major) although i was very interested in the Gollum too... It actually came down to either the gollum or the sedum.

Does anyone know if it's as rare as the description says? I'm not sure if $9 is worth it...might just switch it for the gollum instead.

As to the pots...haha i can't wait to see how small they exactly are...guess i'll just have to make a stop at either walmart or someplace to get some cheap pots to hold them till the summer comes around...

Please check out jadepoint.com. I just received my order few days ago and I'm delighted. The actual plant looks better/larger than pictured on their website.jadepoint.com ships items very fast and I am truly pleased with my plant. Gosucculent is closed due to sudden death of owner.
