You can cut it now, after it flowers or when it looses its leaves, doesn't really matter as long as you don't cut it during the winter. The cut needs to dry a couple of months before attempting to root. If you cut in June/July it will be dry enough to root by the time fall rolls in.

From what I understand this is a tough one to propagate. Caudex, have you had luck with cuttings on this one? I have a 12" specimen that has great shape and is also pushing up a flower stalk. I was able to sprout some seeds from it last year that resulted in the smallest seedlings I have ever managed.

{{gwi:509352}}I've rooted many cuttings of various Tylecodon, the trick is callusing the branch long enough so it doesn't rot when attempting to root.

I think rotting may occur when the soil mix is not right, and you water before it roots down. I have never had problems with this species, they are winter growers in zone 10 and are Crassulaceae. Most are winter growers, so I cut mine in Sept. and they start to grow by October when the weather cools down. They are dormant in hot weather going dormant as soon as the flowers dry up. I will take cuttings the end of Sept. I don't lay mine down to root, but I will try it now, it just never occured to me that this would work. I have several species of Tylecodon, some miniatures others that grow large more tree like. Norma

Keith- lets say I cut now in March and dry for a 2 months. Lay it by June.. it will be dormant, when will I see rooting? by September? Do I keep in the shade or partial sun? Sorry, for the many questions.

Yes, you should have rooting by Sept if you cut now. Keep it in part shade protected from hot afternoon sun. Water sparingly till you see new growth or the stem start to swell.
