They were just too large to maintain some symmetry with the plant, don't you see? The plant will tighten and darken after a while outside, but Kalanchoe orgyalis just don't like being cooped up.

Anyone who wants one can stop by and pick it up - I'll be growing them on, I reckon, so that there will be young 'uns at the ends of the leaves soon.

Cactus, I'll be by in an hour..lol..

    K. Orgy's are so pretty. Does it need more than other succulents?

Cactus, would you happen to know if this plant related to Orgyalis?

Foliage has an orange hue, but shape differs..what do you think? Toni

    Hey Toni,

If I can grow them on a window sill in NYC, you can probably figure out something where you are. Of course they can always use more light, but still. Pretty litle things when they color up in the summer light (I keep mine small it's community windowsill).

I've had some from CactusMcH, I've shared it w/ Josh (Greenman) & each of us in Canada, Calif & NYC have done well w/ it.

Wasn't it you who recently showed pix w/ lots of big windows? I'm guessing they'd like all that light.

    Hey Jeff,

Lovely staging of those muted colors: the plant, the mix & the pot, subtly pretty.

    Thanks again, Karen!
I was just admiring mine today. It does seem to be pretty content for a container plant.

The first one is K. orgyalis

    Toni,

That's a Kalanchoe beharensis variety / hybrid, so, yes, they're in the same genus.

    Karen,

I'm glad to know they're growing on and thank you.

    Josh,

It will love it outside in the summer - the leaves will get a bronze patina (that is, the ones that don't turn a pure copper colour).

    Norma,

    Yes, it is.

    Hey, Jeff!
I had mine outdoors last Summer and they colored nicely, indeed.
Only thing is, mine are so small compared to yours.

    Toni,

Maybe Yale or RoRo will give you the correct ID of that Kalanchoe - I had it in San Diego, and the hybrid/cultivar words 'Oak Leaf' have a certain resonance, but I don't know if that's the right one.

    Josh,

I'll tell you about a planting of it in San Diego - it was a rescue plant that I put in the yard and grew to be a fine specimen of a shrubbery.

Well, then, maybe it needs a bigger container....
I have mine in the same pot with a bunch of K. bracteata (also courtesy of Karen).
They're lookin' tight at the moment!

Karen and Cactus..After reading Karen's response to me, I reread my post and realized I neglected to add the 'word' I was asking about.

I wrote, "does it need more than other succulents?" What I meant to ask, "does it need more 'water' than other succulents?"
    Sorry about that. Toni

    Toni,

It's your semi-typical tropical plant from Madagascar. Give it heat, light, porous soil and water on a somewhat frequent (3x a month) basis and watch it take off. I'm surprised that the inside beast has grown as much as it has, but the temps in there rarely get below 65F/15C and it got a repotting recently, I think...

    Word up.

Cactus, thanks..that's what I thought. I remember an article discussing E. orgy. The author mentioned it needed more water than other Euphorbs.
However, it was one authors opinion.
I've read other articles yet there was no mention of more water.
    Different authors, different opinions.

    Wait Toni,

Where ya going there? We're talking about Kalanchoes, not Euphorbias, at least last I knew.

Toni, your Kalanchoe looks one of mine, which I think is K. beharensis 'Rose Leaf'. I killed my original plant by overwatering, but I saved some leaves which are now plants. A similar variety I have is K. beharensis 'Fang' which develops unusual pointed protrusions on the undersides of the leaves and on the stem.

    Kalanchoe behararensis 'Fang'

Christopher...WOW..yours is so full, so beautiful!!! Was the one pictured started from a leaf?
Think I have Fang, but didn't know the two were related..Toni

    Toni:

I actually have two of these, which were started from the same leaf. Unfortunately this one had an accident months ago, it fell off the windowsill and lost some leaves in the fall. But I do love the fuzzy Kalanchoes.
