New display rack

$175 and 2hrs later I have a new display rack for my fatties that need a little protection from the hot afternoon sun.

The new fence faces the south, the ol' one protects from the hot western sun and shade cloth gives a bit of mid day diffusion.

Very neatly done as well. I'm impressed. Norma

Nice work, but...how will you secure the pots? Are you not worried about pots falling off from on high? Breezes, wind, cats, possums, earthquakes, etc. Here the wind can send a heavy pot flying. If one fell off the topmost level it could knock down a lot more on its way down. Just wondering...not intending to be critical or negative, but if I had plants as beautiful as yours I'd be a little paranoid.

That is so neat! I want one! I agree about the wind and outdoor critters and whatnot. But still, neat!

    HI
very nice I like it very much...good job..
I agree about the wind, or stormy weather...
    thats what I worry about...linda

    Very nice!

Funny, you are looking for ways to reduce the sun exposure...and in my neck of the woods I am constantly looking for ways to increase it...

More flooding rains on their way tomorrow - yippee!

Nicely done. I'd like to see it displaying all of your potery. Nice stuff.

Since this rack is intended for smaller pots (4" and smaller) I'll put lath on the back of each shelf. Bigger stuff doesn't move even in the severest weather. I have another set of these bleachers, nothing over a 6" pot size moves.

I'll make one more 12ft rack then will start on a pottery display.

caudex, i like how you have the most amazingly beautiful potted plants, but your yard looks like crap. do you rent? or does all your time and energy go into your massive potted collection?

Looks GREAT Caudex!! Might have DH build me one of those, thanks for the great design.

Tom, living in FL I do the same thing as Caudex this time of year...looking for ways and places in the yard to give my plants a much needed break from the intense sun.

    Keith,

That's real nice work - the plants and you will like it for years. I can't quite make it out but if you have a short ribbon of wood running along the top/back of the boards it helps with general alignment, IME.

Are you going to paint/stain it? That will give you even more years of a pleasurable growing experience.

    tride26,

Congratulations - that's the most obnoxious comment, on several levels, that I've seen here in some time and certainly better than I've written in years (I think).

    Keith,

I see you mention puthing lath on the back of each shelf - please belay my suggestion.

Very nice out of the box thinking to use the off-the-shelf stair guides "upside-down". This gives you a more vertical bang for your buck and is perfect for smaller pots. I agree with the idea of staining it; you might consider some tough waterproofing, at least.

Perhaps it's wrong of me but trides comment made me giggle quite considerably.

But don't feel bad Keith. The yard at my old house had no grass in the back yard, just mud, because dogs peed on the newly laid sod killing it all and I was missing half my fence. And the yard here at my new place is choked in garbage due to renovations, and is missing several bits and pieces of the fence so the dog gets out and has visited pretty much every neighbour in the cul-de-sac...

Ya know what I'd really LOVE to see is that rack, totally finished and filled with your stunning collection. Now that I think would be absolutely breathtaking!

clean the yard or make pottery? pots win out every time.

Thanks everyone! never thought about staining, will have to look in to that. The 1st set I made is about 8years old and still looks good, no much weathering at all.

Will be making another 12ft section next week and then a display for my pots

i didn't intend for my comment to offend anyone.....sorry.
i have a lot of respect for caudex and his amazing ability to grow beautiful fat plants. i look at every pic he posts and use them as motivation to someday try to get one of mine as awesome looking.

Didn't offend me. I just thought it was funny you could tell how my yard looks from the photo. It really does look like crap ever since I started making pots.

Spent the afternoon making another rack, this one is 12ft wide. Now I can clean up my crappy backyard ;o)

I could not believe it when that comment was made! Go to it!!
