Pruning a 7 ft. camelia...

I have a beautiful pink camelia that is in full bloom right now...the problem is that its really overgrown its area and needs to be pruned back a good bit. I know I'm supposed to prune just after bloom but I am wondering how much I can take off this plant without doing it any harm. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

I take my cue from the instructions that the American Camellia Society gives for transplanting, where they suggest removing 1/3 to 1/2 of the bush. Personally, I never remove more than 1/3 of any type of plant though. It choose the lesser of the two in case there were to be problems later (unrelated to transplanting).

Hi,
If you do remove part of that beautiful shrub by cutting back; I'd love to do a try at rooting cuttings. I'd be glad to pay for a flat rate box of pencil size cutting when you do decide to do this.
