It sneaks up on you! ;)

For me, I was bitten when my teacher gave me a jade plant in Elementary School. She had tons of jade plants lined up in a row along the windows. Last day of school, she gave away the plants to each of us and I took good care of mine for a few years until it died.

I always thought Hoyas and succulents went along with each other. In fact, back when I got my first Hoya (30-some years ago), I thought it was a succulent. And I read an article that called it a semi-succulent. So it seemed like a natural progression to me to get into succulents. Now I mostly keep smaller succulents, like Haworthia, small Aloes, a few Echeveria, and save most of my room for my ever-growing Hoya collection...

But lucky you - you can grow your succs outside, so room isn't so much an issue for you! Good luck at the show!
