South America - not just practice cactus.

Here is a link that might be useful: And The Answers Are

Glad they figured them out for you on TGF, Howard. I have a Copiapoa humilis, but it doesn't look like THAT (so huge)!

Sometimes I feel "red-faced" because I post the same thing on both boards. These were impulse purchases. The Copiapoa humilis because it was a nice purple color and the Discocatus because it has a cephalium. There seems to be a bit of a "to do" about the correct name for the Discocactus. Not that I care some much about the correctness; I like names so I can do the research and reading of cultural notes otherwise I end up with a dead plant in the first week!

No need to feel that way! The more people asked, lthe better chance of getting answers you need! I think more help is better! And, as in this case, answers there instead of here. Could be vice versa other times. More names, more ways to research, I say!

You are brave to get such plants. I would probably kill them faster than you! But, the reason I got into identifying plants in the first place was so that I would quit killing them! LOL

As it turns out my plant (shown in the Alphabet: Letter C thread) is not the same subspecies as yours, so, different look, but still purplish. =D

I'm a sucker for a purple plant too! :P

Ok Howard! First you got me hooked on Rebutia! Now a whole other forum?! LOL.

Just thought you would want to know even when not trying you still can help a newbie. : )

Thanks,
Glenn
