I have a friend that LOVES camel, and she swears by camel and navy blue. Before you paint any walls or change any window treatments, maybe you have a navy blue piece of clothing you could throw over the back of one of the sections to see if you like it.

A coffee table is a challenge with this kind of configuration so be sure to have side tables for drinks, remotes, etc.

Yes, shades of browns and blues would work with a camel sofa.

@lefty47: I appreciate your opinions and suggestions. I agree that it is too large for the room. We are moving in a year though, so we bought the couch more for that future larger living room. I do love the sofa despite it's limiting style and somewhat traditional look. Do you think it's still possible to pull off a more modern look in my current living room? If so, do you have any decor/furniture suggestions? Thank you again for your honesty and feedback!

Can you give length/width of room and sectional? When you are arranging the room, try breaking the sectional into sections: chaise off by itself, etc.

I like your idea of camel,ivory and black..I would add green in some plants and try a few pillows with all the colors...Additionally I would pop the look with nickle / silver metallic accessories...

HI - OK, now I understand the sofa choice, I was just worried you were making a problem for yourself. A lot of people fall in love with a piece of furniture without any thought to the size of their space. I don't see any trouble making that sofa fit into a more modern setting. I would say it is more transitional which seems to be what everyone is going for these days. I like the Mitchall - Gold furniture and anything with clean lines and not currently trendy. When you get this sofa in a larger place , I could see it with some lounge or arm chairs in a charcoal suede and chrome or go into the creame colors and I love your idea of the Jade accents. I hope you enjoy your new sofa , it looks like good quality.

ercwc6... I have leather sofa, recliner and club chair that appear to be same color as your sectional. I have done my walls in a gray/greenish color (sometimes takes on a bluish color), pillows are different fabrics and patterns in linen, turquoise and jade/blue. I have several vases and tall (sitting on the floor) jugs that are clear jade (like one on table in Lindenwood Circle picture), some are pottery type dark brown/black, cream and turquoise striped. Area rug is a gray/green (took wall color inspiration from rug) background with cream, camel and dark brown design all over. I think the colors you have in mind will work well. The color of your sectional, like my couch/etc., is really a neutral and should pretty much work with everything, except maybe yellow/orange colors.

As mentioned above, maybe find some of the colors your wanting to use in your closet and bring those in and lay around the room and on the sectional.

what are you trying to accomplish? once u ans that question it is easier to decide the colors

I'm glad someone mentioned charchoal -- grey is an important neutral; all your choices are good and as to which color to 'pop' with accents I'd suggest you pick a favorite out of your collected art or vases. I've a sand panting in those colors and it's awesome (in my opinion - ignore the philondendron leaf in lower portion of this photo) -- but I do like neutral palettes

Be careful with your accessories - because this style of sofa and the colour is "transitional" that means it can be pushed one way or another depending upon what is surrounding it (eg: lamps, cushions, area rugs etc.) You want to keep your accessories modern, and look for a magic accent fabric like this Ikat pattern here.

And yes, layer in some charcoal (warm gray, not blue undertone gray) but, find your "magic accent fabric" first, then pull tones from that fabric ! Good luck in your search!

OK, here's my two cents worth. Since you have purchased this 3 piece sectional for your furure home and even you agree it's too big for the space why not loose the center section. place it elsewhere in the home or store it. Place the chaise against the wall to the right of the window and the sofa with it's back on the oppoisite side creating a hall/entry from the front door. this frees up the common wall with the closet and bath for the wall mounted TV and a slender sofa table or book case while creating a feeling of openess. Now a small coffee table will work without making the room feel crowded..Seattle area has spoken

Throw those damn useless throw pillows away!!

I love the use of jade with your couch. Even though you are moving soon, I say you should use as much color as possible! Focus more on the camel color of your couch and the jade accents. If you like the navy that people keep suggesting, use it WITH the jade and camel. It would look great. Forget about throw pillows: get some side tables that are navy/jade.

Love the sofa selection! Where did it come from?

The closet doesn't open into the living area nor does that wall have anything else preventing the chaise part of the couch running down that wall, leaving the back of the sectional facing the staircase. Placing it this way would lend the felling of an entryway without really having a grand entryway. I would buy a minimal depth couch table to place against the stairway wall below the balustrades which would maximize the space and provide a great entry welcoming point with a table lamp. If room permits I'd place a large round vase against the wall down by the chaise. This would then open the room by allowing the far left vertical wall (left of the windows) free for the tv and any other design elements.

All too often people line the walls with furniture on the perimeters which actually cause the room to appear smaller.

Your color pallet will work extremely well! The several neutrals paired with the jade is a great choice for this time of year but will also work well with deeper colors for the wintertime. I suggest shopping overstock.com in the throw pillow section just for visuals on textures in textiles in general.

All your choices I think are very high end and will work extremely well. Have fun and I hope you post after pictures :)

Hi Liz! Lots of good input stated above. I think adding a large throw cushion in a "red" not "blue" purple would be very rich looking and would tie in with the neutral colours you've chosen. Adding too many colours will look overwhelming. I also think breaking up the sectional would be more useful in your current space.

A couch is for sitting, NOT for holding up throw pillows. Do you want to sit down or hold a ridiculous pillow?

Did you have some terrible past experience with throw pillows? If not for throw pillows, what would you throw at your spouse when you are upset? A lamp?

Throw pillows are useless and just get in the way. Where are you suppose to put 'em when you sit down? Have you ever been invited to sit on a couch that the cushions are not even visible for all the "beautiful, wonderful" throw pillows?

True, they are to look at when just family at home, and my limit is three per sofa. And I always take them off before guests arrive, so they don't have to deal with them!

I also remember staying in a SMALL guest room with a zillion pillows on the bed. Where to put them??

to original poster...follow your instincts and use the jade that you want to use with your new sofa. Add small accents of the cream,black and whtes. Maybe start with an area rug with all of those colors in it?

If you have to put the throw pillows away before guests arrive, why have them at all?? They serve no useful purpose. Those that use throw pillows are just sheep or lemmings following what some "inferior desecrater" says is the in thing. Forget what the so called experts say. Their opinion is just that....an opinion.

I like the look of the pillows on my sofa. That is why I have them. My house is for me to enjoy. Plus they are great for sticking under my head for naps!

If I am having a party, and every seat is needed, then I take them off to make as much room as possible for my guests. Baa! Baa! Bleet! Bleet! said this sheep!

Good heavens, all these people who don't use their throw pillows! How odd. I'm with pcmom1. Doesn't anyone else drape themselves across sofas lengthwise? Isn't that the primary function of a sofa when guests aren't around? The whole purpose of throw pillows in our house is for neck and lower back support when lounging lengthwise reading a book, typing on a laptop, napping. We use them constantly.

Lol. In my house I can't remove them because if company comes my kids and grand-kids grab them and take a seat on the floor, which they prefer even if we don't lack seating or limited room. Maybe this is my fault from years of allowing them to curl up on the family room floor to watch spooky movies when they were younger. With 7 children of our own and numerous foster children over the years, all too often my husband and I found ourselves on the floor with them. These days we have a media room but it still doesn't lack those comfy throw pillows :) Textiles are GREAT!!
