Hi Jojo, mine is planted in the ground with its more scantily clad cousin, v. inermis. Although the exposure is fully west facing (resulting in a nice thicket of papery spines), these guys get watered once a week, sometimes every other week (in winter) and sometimes not at all (during monsoons)... Depends if there's beer that needs drinking! I need to bring myself to weed out all those penstemon seedlings soon!
Jeff, after growing these suckers for well neigh a decade, I never flowered 'em till I put them in the ground!

I've never seen the actual flowers myself, just the remnants, of my inermis clump, but I agree, in the ground they go and they'll flower.

Mine are in the ground.. but pretty much just get by on what mother nature provides, and here In Az. that isn't much. lol.. I'll start to water them!
