Preparing to write 'Heirloom Tomatoes For Dummies'.

Me again. :-)

I think I must have explained about Heirloom tomatoes to at least a hundred people. Since I'm a writer (or at least I play one in Real Life), I'd like to make a little booklet "For Dummies". Keeping it simple won't be a problem: FOR "dummies" BY a dummy! ;-)

Perhaps I can talk the local paper into letting me run an ongoing column, where I can introduce people to varieties and histories. I'd like that.

I'll post a first draft of HTFD here first: I value your feedback very much, and I KNOW there are a lot of HT experts out there.

My question: do you have any suggestions on just what should go into such a booklet? So far I've come up with:

- appearance

- days to maturity

- size

- how to save seed (I could use some help with this, I just know the basic basics).

- history / route they travelled to get to North America.

I most humbly ask the Tomato Masters: is there anything glaringly missing? Perhaps something that's special to HTs?

Who knows: maybe GW will let me put it up here on their site when it's done. I sure wish there was such an info-sheet when I first learned about them.

Love and a good marinara sauce,

Merri
