How about a broad-leaf weed killer? It should leave your grass intact.

I've always thought that the difference betwen a weed and a flower is that a weed is just too easy to grow.

I planted viola odorata many years ago, and before I was finally rid of it, the plants were larger than some daylilies. They also out performed some ivy. I pulled and sprayed for several years.

I also read that they sow very fine seed later in the season. And mine were not particularly fragrant.

i have the same problem, so if anybody's got a solution, i'd be happy to hear it too!

I had some doing ok in my shady backyard. But I think they hate dry fertilizer...and I might have burned them out. I haven't noticed them this year like last.

You might try sprinkling ammonia sulphate on them. Do a small area. Just in case I'm wrong...

Oh yeah, I've had the same experience. I just leave them be in some places, in others I go after them. Amazing how they spread from the back yard to the front. How'd they do that?

Another violet that spreads (by runners) is the Australian violet, but it is very easy to pull out. From three small plants, the yard is now encircled.
