Ace Tomato is one of the best to grow in containers...
They are great on sandwiches,in salads,or for saucing.
Use Harvest Supreme for the soil...I've grown tomatoes right in the bag itself and have had awesome results.

Variety of tomato is up to you.
I've got toms growing like gangbusters in 3 bags of soil laid flat on the ground right now. Yep, just cut a hole in the middle of the bag and stick in a tomato plant. Anything called "Harvest Supreme" or specifically sold as good for vegetable gardens should work fine. Big box stores might not carry such products. You might need to hit a nursery. But no need to mix with any other soil or amendments.

It's a great site to look thru, with lots of tomato varieties for containers (look for the container icon next to each variety. Has lots of helpful hints on how to grow in containers too. A lot of us members on the Tomato Forum use her site as a guide esp. if you live here.
Perhaps more than anything, the size of your containers will be crucial to success, although cherry types seem to not mind smaller pots. Have you searched the Tomato Forum for "container"? Lots of former threads will come up; you might find it helpful esp. if you do not plan on doing only heirloom varieties.

I've never been happy growing container tomatoes in pure store-bought soils. I use 70% Supersoil, 15% native clayish topsoil, 10& vermiculite and 5% sand - very well mixed. I usually use a 5 gallon black plastic containers.

I grow Early Girl and Ace in a tank. They seem to LOVE the compost I make as atop dressing.

Early girl is a solid choice for a container. As far as a mix, if you're up for making your own, you should use what they call in the Container Forum "Al's Mix". You can use search to find it but off the top of my head I believe it is:

5 parts pine bark fines (use only pine or fir bark)
1 part spaghum peat
1 part perlite

Outstanding drainage and your plants roots will get a ton of oxygen.

OR, you could go with a 50% Kellogg's Patio Plus/50% perlite, which also works pretty well
