Well, you could view the fallen leaves as a chance for each leaf to start a new plant...

I'd try gently wrapping the stems in something soft but not bulky. Unless the pot is valuable,
I wouldn't worry about getting it off in one piece. Either break it (if ceramic) or cut if off if its plastic.
Gently place it in its new pot. You're probably going to lose a few leaves no matter what.

That said I haven't transplanted a really sizable one of
these. Let us know how it goes.

Hi, I have asked this question too...
my thread is...'all plants outside'
my Burros tails are about 2-3 feet long and needs repotted, but as you said how does one do it without ended up with bare vines....take a look at my plant on my thread I bought the thread back up to the top...linda

Mauch:

Would newspaper work? The pot is plastic so I'll just cut it off.

And, Linda, what lovely plants you have!

The Tennessee Linda ;-)

I dont have a burros tail but when I re-potted my string of pearls it was 2 feet long at least. I laid the pot down on its side, parting the strands on the bottom so the pot wouldn't squish them and then pulled the pot off. Then I took most of the dirt off the roots with a watering can and filled the new pot 1/2 full and used the bag as a sling to lift the plant and tip it into the new pot so I wouldnt be handling the leaves much. Then just parted the strands gently and filled in the rest of the soil. I only lost a handful of leaves and it didnt effect the appearance at all.

Hi, Moosetrackz great plant, I have no luck with that one, you have a green thumb for it, beautiful...and nice repot, it looks very full and healthy...
stonesriver, thanks for the nice comment...
I like to hear what others think of my plants....
burro's tail plants are so I guess you would say brittle, just touch them and the leaves fall off...I'm not sure what to try to repot....linda
