It might- depends on the kind of scale. I have scale issues on some of my outdoor plants, so there are definitely kinds that are winter hardy in our area. Some aren't though. If it's not much material, just add it to the regular garbage and be done with it.

I had a ficus once with scale and despite years of battling it, i never did get rid of it altogether. I eventually pitched the plant. Scale's tough- my best luck has been with oil spray- very diluted for live plants or less diluted in the winter for dormant plants outside. The bottle should have rates on it. It keeps forever and is safe to use for many things. It's not a pesticide- it works by smothering, not poison.
