Glad I came to this forum. You seem to be just the person to help me.
I have a large collection of cacti that no one wanted or knew the names of. I've been fortunate they all seem healthy. They are growing, some blooming and I don't have a clue what to do for them other than water and food.
Is there a site that shows pictures?
Is there one call Brain Cactus? If so I have one and love it.

I don't know of a good place that shows pictures or am I an expert on caring for cacti, so I will leave that to the others to assist you on those topics. I do have some cacti myself, but this is my first summer with them, so it is hard for me to say if I'm even doing the right things for them. There is such a thing as a brain cactus. I think you can type it in on Google image or Yahoo! image to find a photo to be sure that is what you have.

Thanks for your reply to my reply! The teeth on picture 3 suggests Aloe to me, as I've not seen any Gasteria with them. Time and flowers would help pin down a more definitive ID.
Crylady - The site below has many pictures of different Cactus genera. It might be quicker, however, to post pictures at a forum, where someone might venture some names for you. The brain Cactus might be a cristate or monstrose form of a number of different species.

Elizabeth, I googled brain cactus and discovered what I have is not what is pictured. Mine is short, tree-like with short arms or branches. Very prickly, thorns that almost meet at the ends. Dark green.
I tried to join the cactiguide forum but couldn't get past the form they want filled out. Whats a ICQ number anyway,hehehe
I'll try to find a picure on some of the sites. It's neat.

Hmm... that defintely doesn't sound like a brain cactus lol. I'm not sure what that would be. Do you have a photo you can post, maybe someone can help you identify it? I didn't see a form when I clicked on the link to rjm710's URL he posted... I saw "latin name" on the left side near the middle of the screen and "common name" on the right, where you can type in either the latin name of the cactus or the common name. It seemed to work ok for me, I didn't see anything about ICQ? Did you click on anything right after you clicked the URL or no?

You're welcome lol. That sounds like that's all I can do, just wait until it blooms. I find that alot of cacti and succulents that you buy from "the cacti collection" or "the succulent" collection are mislabeled like crazy. I found two differents labels in two different pots, but they were the same plant! I returned one of the aloes/gaterias/whatever it is lol back to Lowes. I downsized my collection you could say...

I understand. To be honest with you, 3/4 of my cacti have no id's. I've been unable to find out what they are and don't believe I ever will lol.
