oddly, sometimes the big box stores will carry them in spring close to the rhodies & azaleas. Lowe's is esp prone to it. They still aren't that cheap, though. Good luck!

Yeah, I got mine a few years ago from Lowes.

They are quite happy growing in acidic soil, in almost full shade, but they have been VERY slow growers for me. The rhododendrons I planted at the same time are about 3 or 4 times larger.

I find it very strange that it is so difficult to find mountain laurels in the triangle area of NC. They grow wild everywhere in western NC and they're beautiful! Everyone here just has azaleas in their front yards. BORING. I'm sick of azaleas. My house came with many, but I'm moving them all to the back and replacing them with camellias and soon, mountain laurels.
