hey Alicia- it's more fountainy - that's sort of how i grow mine (and how the lady i started mine from grew hers). The canes on mine get pretty long, though- like 10-12', so you could easily grow it up a trellis, i think. It's got many thin canes rather than a few big thick canes like true climbers like new dawn or veilchenblau, and likes to run/sucker at ground level like rugosas. Not sure what the parentage or type is. Mine is tied to a waist high fence, but also likes to try and ramble through a crepe myrtle on the other side. I didn't expect it to get as big as it has, and the corner i have it in is quite crowded. But since i don't want to move any of the things i have there, i make the best of it.
