One of my favorite of all nurseries for sarracenias is the incredible Sunbelle of Port St.Lucie (zone ten,) Florida.

Their method for successfully triggering sarracenia dormancy is a combination of seasonal, decreased daylight and reduction of water.

I don't think they would mind if I copied what they wrote on another forum that they frequent,

"the cold isn't really the issue with dormancy. Shorter daylight hours in combination with less water makes our plants "rest". The pitchers don't turn black because we don't have freezing conditions.... but they look terrible from late Nov to Feb. Holding back on the water really helps put them into dormancy."

If anyone has not ever checked out their website I highly recommend it. I am a happy customer-they are the real deal.

For the novice the refrigerator is the safest bet for a zone 10er but apparently it is not the only way when growing sarracenias in a warm climate.

For the tropical pitcher (I assume you mean a Nepenthes) a little water added to the pitcher will extend the pitcher life a bit.
