Scilla in the South

Scilla siberica is one of my favorite spring-flowering bulbs, but I rarely see it growing here. It is fabulous in the Midwest, where it forms glorious sheets of intense blue in early spring.

Anyone have any experience growing it in the Carolinas--especially in the clay soils of Raleigh? Any reason it shouldn't be okay here--too hot in summer, not cold enough in winter, soil too acidic? Should I put it out of my mind altogether in this region?
