squirrel chewed some roots

My plant on the balcony in a pot seems to have been disturbed. The plant is not uprooted but it seems like a few upper roots have been chewed through. Is this fatal for the plant (which otherwise is healthy, and just started to pup a month ago) and will the squirrel want to come back? thanks. Joe
