It looks like Lysimachia clethroides or gooseneck loosestrife. It is invasive though I tried growing it in sand and can't even get it to survive.

That's it..thanks! It grows in the parts of my yard that have clay or other amended soil, not so much in the pure sandy areas.

Oh what I wouldn't give for parts of my yard to have clay ha. Even in my well amended sand, I can't get the gooseneck to survive. I think its on invasive lists so it probably shouldn't be grown in some places but I love the look of whimsy it gives a garden.

Marvelous photo close-up. I thought it was the pink, taller variety of loosestrife that was on the top 10 invasives for NC but I may be wrong.

yes, purple loosestrife is super invasive in wetlands all over the place. But, i don't believe it is the same genus as this gooseneck loosestrife, which can also be very invasive. I have it and want to get rid of it, despite its beauty. In clay or moist soil, it is a thug of terrible proportions. It would be lovely in a whiskey barrel or some such thing that could keep it contained.

Amen to the invasive part! I thought I had it almost eliminated. Then, with almost two years' neglect due to family health situations, it is back with a vengence.

Hopefully, I can get on that project this summer!
