About 3 or 4 years ago, I planted my very first clematis. It went down under during the summer of my sporatic newbie care and I left for dead. Well, now it's back and it's gotta a score to settle. Stems are flying up faster than I can tie them!

Finally, at long last, a bud! So it's probably a summer bloomer but I still don't have an ID on it. In the meantime, how do I keep from snuffing out it's life during the summer? I understand, water, shade, cool roots with mulch or foliage plants. Is that's all that's needed or is there another key I'm missing?
