OMG, Terri, that is gorgeous. Do they have to settle in for a few years before they bloom?

I swear I've had bulbs of crinium lilies in the garden for several years, and now they are suddenly blooming. A lovely pale lavender pink, sort of a delicate, translucent easter lily.

I bought the plant in May at Plant Delights so, no, it doesn't have to settle in. From what I've read, it will have only the single bloom this year, but could have up to 6 next year. It's a very small plant--probably not more that 10" tall. Don't know if it will get taller with age, but it is supposed to spread.

The crinum I bought this year also bloomed. Unfortunately, I don't like where I put it but if I move it, then it will be a couple of years before it blooms again (per Alicia, I think).

That Carolina lily is gorgeous. I have a clump of Turk's cap lilies that are getting ready to bloom -- they look similar except that the Turk's cap has a green star in the center of the bloom and are tall. Mine are about 8'.

Your crinum may not take all of 2 years off. Since it hasn't been there very long, maybe it won't be too big and you can get a lot of the roots. What can really take a long time to start blooming are offsets from the parent bulb that have to size up first.

Why do these Crinum lilies take so long to bloom. Now I've got a 4th one near the others, but in a spot I don't remembering planting one in. Do they travel? Underground, that it. It's been years since I put them in, and now they decide to bloom.

The bulbs get very large with offsets all around the main bulb, but they don't really travel, unless one flowered at one point, set seed, and this fourth is a seedling. It's probably a small offset bulb that ended up getting knocked off one of the others and it took this long to size up.

There are some bulbs that resent being moved, and have to be a good size before they flower. Crinum is one of them. I have heard of surprise lilies (Lycoris) taking 5 years to bloom again after being moved.

Love the photo. I did not know that Plants Delights had these. Need to put this on my wishlist for next year.
