I had a Jackmani growing on a tree trunk with a birdhouse on top and over the winter the old trunk fell apart. Everything landed on the clematis that was growing around it. I've since replaced the trunk with a pressure treated post and I put mess wire around that for the clematis to grow around, but, the clematis at it's feet is a big tangled mess. Can I cut this all the way down at this late date?
