Been here 23 years and haven't heard of Ribbon walk urban forest. Is it Uptown? Where?

Near Sunset on Statesville off 77. 192 acres of woodland in Charlotte? I'm surprised.

LOL. Charlotte hasn't gotten that bad has it Dottie? When I used to live there I walked everywhere I went and I lived in some neighborhoods categorized as being rough such as Grier Heights. I never saw a thing or got into any trouble I didn't bring on by doing something I shouldn't have been.

In contrast, I moved to Shelby in my early twenties and had two people shot and killed right behind my house, somebody ripped off my kids' bikes right off my back porch, broke into my car, threw hot grease on my cat, broke into my house while we were moving, had battered women show up on my front porch... one with a boyfriend who had a weapon following her, and had someone try to abduct my girls one day when they got off the bus. Just realizing the sheer amount of crap that went on there makes me so grateful we live in a good neighborhood now lol. The worst thing we have had here is they found a rabid skunk on our road and it seems to be the drop off point for strays. One time someone threw a kitten out their window as they passed the house. (it was ok and we found it a home)

That was a bad neighborhood I admit but you would think Grier Heights would have been worse being in Charlotte. Granted, I haven't live in Charlotte in at least ten years, and I quit working in Charlotte about three-four years ago. I guess you just never know.

Ten years ago there were far fewer pressures by arriving illegals and the main Latino gangs were absent or just getting established.
Belk held on at Eastland Mall for as long as it was marginally profitable but it's gone now. No more ice skating etc.
What was a vibrant area 20 years ago sees as much violent crime as upper west Charlotte, perhaps more. The middle class working families of the 60's have aged out and moved.
Charlotte Uptown is expanding where it can and even Grier Heights is going through the gentrification process now.

It sounds like Ribbon walk is a wonderland for the nature lover but safer for a group experience.
I have to say watching the transformation of the Charlotte region over the past 23 years, and intimately as a Realtor for several years, has been a unique experience.

You mean Grier Heights and that end of Monroe road haven't been assimilated by "Center City" already?

I heard about Eastland a while back and it doesn't really surprise me. Twenty years ago we were living at Sharon Chase and that was my hangout spot and it wasn't really booming then although it was doing better then than my most recent visit. All you really saw there were teenagers and we spent most of our money at the food court. I imagine they did bring in some revenue with the ice-skating though because that area of the mall was always packed. Previous to living in that area we lived up off Park Rd. and Eastland just never seemed to have the same amount of adult business as South Park. I was just in that area last year and barely recognized it because it has grown and changed so much.

Latino gangs, illegals... too political for me to get into at 5am. I have enjoyed the walk down memory lane though.
