I think it likes cool weather. Try growing it fall into winter into spring and see if that does it. Not tried it myself.

I've had marvelous luck with it (in CT..LOL) Down here I got it to grow for a couple of years while it was shaded by an evergreen from all but morning sun in a well drained area.

I grow it without any problem at all. It throws seed everywhere.

I finally got some started by wintersowing. That method seems to really make for good roots. It bloomed well last spring and the foliage has stayed nice all summer right out in full sun. I'd be thrilled if it bloomed again in fall - never expected that!

I don't know the variety but since I buy seeds at the big box stores (no special online orders) it's probably pretty common.
