Make certain if the boxes are in a sunny location that you water, don't rely on Mother Nature and then replant in the soil in the spring. Yes it is a groundcover but it needs moisture during the winter. Dottie has the answer.

I purchased a small plant (4" pot) of Homestead Verbena this past Spring. I planted it immediately in full sun and it began flowering soon after that; flowering for about 3 weeks. It took a break from flowering and started spreading. And spreading. And spreading. Despite the drought, it is now 3 feet wide and has been flowering for the second time this year for over 6 weeks. Combined with pansies and Angelina Sedum, I would consider it a great plant for flower boxes if watered consistently. Snapdragons also do well in the fall and many will winter over to bloom again in Spring if cut back after flowering.
