I wouldn't worry too much about it. Once you've planted crocosmia you soon have all the crocosmia you'll ever want. It thrives here. I'm not sure how it spreads but it does take over a flowerbed.

I have read that the seeds will freeze out of doors; seeds in the garden probably usually germinate the same year they were formed. Crocosomia spread through the garden because the corms multiply quickly. It looks as though sowing the seeds indoors now may be the way to go, as fresh seed is supposed to be better than old seed. Expect germination to take 1-3 months at 60-70 degrees.

I love my crocosmia but for several years had it planted in the shade and it didn't do very well - last year I moved it to full sun and WOW it is really taking off. It blends in well with all kinds of plants and stays real upright for me. Mine is red - 'Lucifer'. Now I am looking to adding more colors and cultivars

I thought I had crocosmia but now I am not sure. At the end of the blades I have what look like little "brains", are these the seeds or are the seeds inside the "brains"? Or do I have the wrong plant? Sorry to hijack, Shannon/Dirtrx

Had them for years in a part shade bed. Was getting ready to toss them and decided to give them one more chance. Moved a cump of them to a sunny spot, really bad soil, and barely scratched them in and they bloomed like crazy this year. Love them now!

thanks so much! i ended up with so many seeds that i decided to sprinkle some seeds in a couple of perennial beds. in a month or so i'll pot up some of the seeds indoors with the hopes of setting out the plants after the new year.

Remember when sowing the seeds in pots that they should never be allowed to dry out........ but then also should never be too wet. Just keep the soil moist and very lightly cover with compost.

Dirtrx... the seed pods DO look like little green brains! Eventually they dry out and the seeds are inside, actually a reddish brown color on my plant, 'Lucifer'.

You might have seeds for a candy lily. I know that Crocosmia have small bulbs which might be from seed!? guess you will have to wait until they bloom to be sure. Most candy lilies have spotted blooms though there is one that is clear yellow. Hate to muddy the waters.
