Raspberries

I planted my raspberry plant this fall. I've never grown them before. The leaves are not looking how they originally did, but I assume this is because of it going into dormancy for the winter. What should the plant being looking like by now?
It's a raspberry short plant that I got for only 7 dollars. Whenever I research the plant, people only talk about their price. It was marked down to $17, but the lady mistook it for $7. Anyways, what should the plant be looking like this time of year? When will it drop its leaves?

Blackberries like NC better than Raspberries. They can be invasive so you have to have room to let them wander or room to mow around them or else they will take over the world. Most of them bloom on second year stems - meaning that the stems grow long one year and that stem blooms and fruits the next year and then that stem dies. All this means you have to pay attention when you prune them but the older stems are easy to tell apart (they'll be dead and dried up in the winter and they'll have the remnants of the little fruit clusters still on them. There are some new ones that bloom on first year stems. They are easier for backyard growers because you can prune them back each year and keep the whole plant under control. They are all coming from an Arkansas breeding program so they'll have Ark somewhere in their name. I'm growing Prime Ark Freedom.

Raspberries seem to do better in part shade. Only a few of them like living in NC, most of them will bloom and fruit but in a few years you'll notice the whole plant is coming back weaker and weaker each year. Most of them do not make the large berries you see in the grocery store or if you've ever been up north or even over in the mountains of NC where they grow just fine. The most common one around here is 'Heritage' which survives better than most but it tends to catch diseases the longer you have it. The berries are small.

I don't grow Shortcake but I do grow many other types of raspberry - some of them have just lost all their leaves and the rest of them have yellow leaves now. Winter is never the problem with raspberries here, its our summer heat that they don't like.

I'm in the same boat you are - I grew raspberries for the first time this year, and now they're dormant. I transplanted mine from buckets into the ground in late fall/early winter.

According to all the information that I've found, you're supposed to clip stems in the fall a few inches from the ground. A lawnmower, if you've got a bunch of them, works fine. They'll overwinter in a dormant state, and when the soil warms up in the spring, they'll produce new stems. Again, I have no experience with them, but I did my homework before buying a bunch of stems, and as far as I can tell, they look pretty much dead for several months.

In our old house, we had black berry plants. They are invasive. Whenever the plant comes out I used to dig deep and pull the root. If there is a small root inside, they are multiplying and growing everywhere. I couldn't control them.

I have seen black berries in sabji garden's house. I am tempting to have few plants. Again I am worried that they may spread allover my yard.

Please advice about raspberries and black berries.

The blackberry I have, is a cultivated thornless one, ... huge berries and is prolific..

You have to be diligent with the pruning every year..

They taste awesome. sweet with a hint of tart..Mmmm.
