Happy Blue Moon

Seriously, tonight is a blue moon!! The second full moon in a month, not a true blue-coloured moon. Those need a huge forest fire or an exploding volcano. I heard this on the way home today. The last blue moon was in 1990, and the next will be in 2028! Actually, tonight is even rarer, as it falls not only on New Year's Eve, but also because there will be a partial eclipse of the moon, though it can only be seen in the Canadian Far North. This is a once in a century thing, they say!!! Also, Mars is very visible as a large orange star, and apparently, you can also see Jupiter and it's moons with binoculars!!! That would be everywhere, except here, where it is snowy and cloudy. Sigh.

Now that I have either garnered your attention, or put you to sleep - check your fire-alarm batteries, make sure you have a carbon-monoxide detector that is working. A family of 3 died near here yesterday cause they ran a generator in their garage during a power outage. Carbon Monoxide is a silent killer. Put some old, clean wool blankets in your trunk - most accident victims do not die of their wounds, but from shock. Keeping them warm can save their lives. It is such a small thing to do, and requires no skill.

Everyone have a safe and Happy New Year!!!

Nancy.

Isn't it cool about the blue moon?! I love the full moon and this is especially spectacular.

Thanks also for the safety tips, Nancy-always good to be reminded.

Happy, happy new year, all. I wish for you all a healthy and prosperous year filled with joy and laughter.

Happy Blue Moon to you, too, Nancy. I was thinking about using it as a weekend trivia question Saturday, but figured that it would be too well known to have much fun with.

I'm going off-topic a little, 'cuz things have been a little slow in Conversations lately. Hope it's OK, Nancy.

Do you all know the song Blue Moon? I found out that when it was written in 1934 by Rodgers and Hart, their melody had already been used for three unsuccessful songs. Hart wrote new lyrics for the fourth time and ended up with Blue Moon. It was a ballad for decades until The Marcels do-wopped the heck out of it in 1961. I remember liking the '61 song, probably because it was the first version I heard and I was at an impressionable age. :-) Also, it was Rock and Roll! There are lots of versions available on YouTube, if you have hankering to hear any.

No blue moon for us tonight either, Nancy - cloudy and snowy here too. Thanks for the interesting info.

We were able to get a spectacular view of the moon and the night sky. We went way out in the country to a friend's 10 acre farm and had a NYE celebration with them and another couple. We all went outside and enjoyed the night. Not even very cold so it was great.

Happy New Year to everyone. c
