In Colorado, the trend is to replace white wooden stair ballisters (spindles?) with iron ones, but I am seeing a lot of railings and elements of the staircase painted black in these photos. I really like the look - is this a new trend? Installing iron makes me nervous because it brings me back to the 70s and with white wooden ones, I don't have to dust them!
