Aloe Vera resource help

Hello,

I am starting a rather nice little collection of Aloe Vera and was wondering if someone could offer a little advice in the way of a place for me to identify my own plants?

I have tried every possible google search i could think of to find something..and all I can find are ways to use it..not identify it.

I hope to have my collection grow, and therefore would like to be able to try and identify my own plants..rather than relying on others to try and help me....i'm weird like that.

Any advice?

Maybe I'm confused, but Aloe Vera IS the ID. To isolate a search for pix, after specifying what you're searching for, then press "Images" & it'll restrict the search to that (photos or drawings), which should give you an idea.

If what you mean about IDing is for Aloes in general (of which Aloe Vera is only one kind), try checking out Desert-tropicals.com, within that the Succulent Area, within that "Aloes" & should have pix of various different Aloes. (I haven't checked that site in some time.)

You may have to do that combined with relying on others while you learn more about other Aloes (nothing wrong w/ that to me).

Can't tell from your profile where you are geographically, but pls. know (if you don't already) that Aloes need a lot of light to do well; preferably strong light & even direct sun.

Post pictures here to get an identification. You'll need a free image server like Photobucket.com

By Aloe vera, I suppose you mean All of the genus Aloe, not just Aloe vera = Aloe barbadensis. Start your searches with just Aloe. Are you collecting the small hybrid Aloes that are becoming more available? What is your source for the plants?

Good online resources are The Institute for Aloe studies and Desert Tropicals

Many of us here collect various Aloe species and hybrids. Welcome.

Please don't take my post as me trying to be rude...that wasn't my intent at all.
What I meant by wanting to figure out which Aloe I had on my own was... I'd like to try and learn characteristics and things like that so that in the future I can maybe pick things out for myself....I love researching things.

Thank you on the advice for plant care....right now I have them all in a heated greenhouse, and they are all growing and loving life, They are getting a pretty good dose of sunlight each day.....several hours. Unless it's raining outside....but, our rainy season usually passes by pretty quickly.

I should have thought about what I said when I said Aloe Vera....sorry about that. I am used to growing up calling everything by one name, it's a hard habit to break.

Right now my only sources for plants have either been local retailers who have (by luck) had a few aloe other than the aloe vera.....and then everything else has been purchased online ( via ebay) you gotta do whatcha gotta do. lol

Thank you for the links...I'm going to check them out...if I can't figure the id's out on my own...I will post here and get some help.
