Brenda, there are lots of people interested in them. But nobody has turned up with a deposit and said "I want that one", so they are all up for grabs. Except Maizie, whom DH thinks he is keeping, and Beau, who is my favourite. LOL. No, we're not keeping any but it will be sooo hard to see them go.

Cindy, don't forget puppy kisses and puppy smell... hah! You could always drop in and "see" them on the way out to Alberta...

Shaon, a new puppy would be bad enough, but imagine explaining to Maizy that the puppy has the same name. She would think she'd literally been replaced!

Awwww Sharon that is so cute! I have to show DH, he will love it. Maizie's his favourite puppy. I try not to have a favourite but Beau is. He has the most personality, always doing something rotten. Notice he's the one chewing the rope. He's going to be a handful. But after last night when he kept me awake for two hours crying, I think Mona might be gaining on him in popularity. >:0(

Sharon, they are 1/4 Dachshund, all the rest Basset. About the mix of colours - I have been studying dog coat genetics and it's fascinating (apparently only to me, but oh well LOL). Really simplified, Daisy (a tricolour basset) is "Black & Tan" modified by "Piebald" to make it blotchy cow patches. The black & tan pups just don't have "piebald". The solid red is dominant and comes from Spud who is dominant red, but also carries black and tan because his mom was a tricolour basset. The piebald red is a combo of recessive traits and had only a small chance of happening... (aww lil Maizie, so special LOL). There are a bunch of other genes that do things in other breeds but not in my dogs. Hope that wasn't all gibberish.

My youngest "puppy" turns 14 tomorrow, so seeing these little ones at the other end of the life cycle is a real treat (and a wistful one...) All of them are adorable, Gil! Give them lots of hugs and smooches from me!!

Hey gil you arent alone in the genetic interest area! I used to breed rats just for coat colors! I can't wait for puppies cuz I have two different shades of cream pomeranian!

OOps I guess my biology major just got out of hand there. Yeah don't get me started on mendelian genetics- I used it for 3 assignments in designing lesson plans for my masters.

Anyway, i can't wait for little puppies. Maybe she'll take this heat and we can have a few!

Awwww the sad side of puppies is starting to emerge... I have to get some ads out to sell them. Also, I took them all to the vet today for their first shots, and little Maizie has a bad heart murmur. So bad that I probably can't sell her. We're pretty upset. But they will be going back in two weeks, and we will know if the murmur is correcting itself (which apparently it might). Aww, Gil, I'm really sorry to hear about lil' Maizie. I really hope that I didn't contribute to the problem with all the fetch I've been teaching her in the bubble.

They are so cute. I would love to take one (I'd take Maizie) but DH keeps threatening to leave if I ever get another dog. So, life insurance and a dog . . . oh the things I have to wait for. : ) Just kidding. I really love my DH!

Shauna, the fetch is cheering her up... LOL thanks. Well the vet seemed pretty grim about Maizie but couldn't tell me exactly how bad it was... just not to sell her until he has seen her again. It gives me hope that she is very energetic and happy, but I now realize that's why she gets cold and shivers more than the others. I can feel the murmur through her chest, it's like a vibration instead of a heartbeat. Anyway, if she doesn't improve we will just continue to love & take care of her as long as she has a decent quality of life.

They're all covered three thick in kisses but I will add some more for you Sharon... LOL.

This is an interesting, sort of all-encompassing article on canine heart murmurs - especially hopeful is this line, "Some cardiac murmurs, especially in puppies, are innocent, meaning they eventually disappear." It goes on to say murmurs can be caused by something as simple as worms.

Thanks for that link Pudge, it explained the different kinds well. Like the article says, it would take a lot of tests to figure out what it was exactly. The vet wrote that it was "holosystolic".

Thanks everyone, they are so funny at this age. Brenda, they were 6 weeks on Thursday. Some people would be selling them now... I don't get anything done but believe me, if they are quietly sleeping, I leave them that way!!

I can watch it on that too, thanks Sharon. In case anyone's wondering, we were too cheap to buy an exercise pen for them so that's why the furniture is all turned over, as a kind of mobile corral. Plus it can be reconfigured as needed. LOL.

Thanks for the video of your puppies Gillian. They are sure cute balls of fire. But momma sure looks tired. Those pups must take a lot out of her. I bet she must like to go somewhere where they can't bother her. But Dad seems to like to keep them busy by playing with him. Cute!!

Yes, Daisy was really gung-ho on the pups for the first couple of weeks, but she's sick of them now. She just hangs around because they are easy to steal food from. Spuddy thinks they're fun. He rolls them over with his nose (as you can see) but he's always gentle with them.

Puppy update! We sold Jackie just before Christmas. She went to be the playmate of a young Cocker Spaniel not far from here so hopefully we will see her around. Beau is sold and they are picking him up tonight (sniffff!) Nice lady with about a 10-yr old boy and Beau loved him when they came to look. Mona is sold to a girl from DH's work, and we will be taking her there on Thursday. So we will be able to keep in touch with her.

Luke's still for sale and Maizie's still doing ok. She's smaller, and thin but not emaciated, and seems healthy so far. But at the last visit the vet was blunt and we are prepared for the fact that she might need to be put down sooner or later.

I can totally relate to everything you are feeling right now, Gil and I'm sure most of us that have pets can. I'm feeling for you. The separation is just the pits. So nice that you will be able to see most of them again. They sure are cute.

I can also relate to how you are preparing for the eventual for Maizie. We just found out last week that we will have to put my dear sweet ol' girl, Patches, down. She has diabetes, kidney failure and a heart murmur. But, she has had a wonderful 15 years with us. We're taking it day by day right now and she seems to be OK. But, I won't let her get too bad before I take her in. It's going to be hard, tho.

Aw Shauna, poor Patches. I feel so bad for you. 15 years is a long life for a dog though, you're lucky to have had her so long. I can't make it any easier but I'm thinking hugs for you!!

We are going to change Maizie's name since we will be keeping her, since Maizie is too close to Daisy and it's going to get confusing for her. We actually thought about Patches for a new name for her, but it looks like it might be Ruby. It's weird to change a dog's name partway in.

Beau has been picked up and I held it together while she was here but cried like a tap when I shut the door. He is going to such a good home though, she brought a towel to rub on Daisy so he could sleep with it. I didn't mention that he has had nothing to do with Daisy for ages besides beating her up, but oh well. Maybe he will bite the towel. LOL.

Sorry, Gil. I forgot to say that Patches is one of my cats. She's such a dignified old lady. Quite content, as long as I don't go too far away.

Beau is probably going to have lots of individual attention and play time with a 10 year old looking after him. Poor little puppy. He's going to be so ready for bed and naptime tonight. I wonder if his new owner will let him sleep on the bed with the 10 yr old. That will keep him happy.

When they came to see Beau, the boy asked if he would get big enough to jump on his bed. Awww how cute is that? She said she had a kennel for him though, which is probably a good idea for the first while.

Ahhh, boy they sure grow fast Gil, they are all so adorable. I feel for you two, been there done that 3 times, its not easy and unfortunately, our pets do not live as long as we would like. The time we can spend with them is a gift that does not last long, but the memories of that special gift last a lifetime.

Well we still have two puppies, Missie (changed Maizie's name, too close to Daisy, it was getting confusing for them both) and Luke. Missie is doing fine, she's still growing and a little thin but no problems otherwise. I actually think she's better than she was at 10 weeks.

Luke has such a charming personality we couldn't sell him. I hate myself for having 4 dogs (I'm that person! aaagh!) but there is not one we could part with. I found out our town has a bylaw of 2 dogs per household, which I assume is only enforced when there is a complaint, so hopefully we fly under the radar. I only have one neighbour whose property is anywhere near my house and I'm friends with him so he's not going to complain.

Luke is such a sweetie, and obeys my every command. He's actually the best puppy I have ever had. The other 3 dogs are much more stubborn. So we took down the posters and tell people when they phone that they're all sold.

Unfortunately one of the pups chewed through the USB cord for my camera so I have no new pics to show you. LOL.
