beginnings

I planted seeds in a produce garden a week ago. Today I found a corn sprout and a couple of radish sprouts. I planted potatoes several weeks ago. I was thinking they weren't going to grown because it has taken so long, but I spotted the first potato sprout yesterday.

The desert winds have been fierce this year and have been going on for twice as long as usual. My flower seedlings, except for the wild flowers and cosmos, have sprouted poorly. The few which did sprout have taken a beating. The onion patch seems unaffected by the wind. The onions are coming along nicely.

A trumpet vine planted three years ago did not come back the second year. Thankfully I never got around to pulling it out. It has new growth on it this year!

The volunteer native wild flowers are doing well in spite of the winds. Many are beginning to bloom. The rabbits have taken out most of the globe mallows, but they don't seem to eat any of the others. Weeds are beginning to sprout as we've recently been having some nice rains. Yesterday there was hail, but it was small so there was no garden damage.
