CT, are your spring bulbs outside? Wow, it will be a long time until I see mine. So far today we have had over a foot of snow come down with what looks like lots more to come. My driveway piles are over shoulder height, that is alot of lifting to do. :(

The bulbs are outside - we had a few weeks of no snow and then got hit - it's all just about gone again now and I'm hoping none of the stuff died because we've had a weird Freeze,thaw, freeze, thaw winter. High today is supposed to be 35 F

Autumn Sunset rose - LOVE yellow roses! Graham Thomas used to be my favorite - but it never lasts through the winter so I'm trying others....

Oh you know I gotta chime in here! Autumn Sunset is my fave rose a lot of the time (my affections are fickle). Lovely orange buds and golden flowers. And it smells pretty too. I just planted it own-root last year and winter protected it but I don't know if it will be hardy for me as a climber or more of a tall shrub. (My climbing Double Delight is a tall shrub)

You might want to wait and see how hardy it was for me Marcia... supposed to be a mid-hardiness rose. I will be posting a full report of rose hardiness in May since I planted some new ones last year.

BTW the link CT posted is more typical of its flowering pattern, it blooms in short stemmed clusters of 6-12. Very nice effect with the orange buds and gold flowers bunched together.

NS...I am very interested in your report....I am thinking I would like to try some of the other own root roses that I keep hearing about. Next year maybe.

Topaz Jewel is a nice one......savona has that one....I think its borderline hardy for me here.

Fear me, for my hair is indeed red. LOL. Well it's more blonde and brown now but it was red some time ago.

Hey Gil of course we are kidding. LOL. Its great that some of us have more interest in certain kinds of plants. It pushes the limits and gives others ideas on what they can grow and how. For myself....I am becomming more and more interested in the different kinds of bulbs.

Well, I'm waiting for my order from Veseys. I thought I'd try something new: Fragrant double freesia mix and Stars of India (achimenes). Does anybody have any comments on these? I also ordered some gladiola seeds and Trollius from Garden North. They are supposed to survive zone 3.

Ummmm are you sure that it was glad seeds? I have never heard of glad seeds before...just corms.

Trollius (globe flower) both yellow and orange will do well here.

Freesia bulbs may or may not flower for you the first year. They sometimes spend the year (growing season) dividing instead. Sometimes sending up what looks like grass leaves. If that happens you will probably get flowers the next year.

Veseys will send their bulbs out later in the season when they feel they can be planted in your area. Sometimes they are right sometimes not. LOL!

Freesias and glads will have to be lifted in the fall and brought indoors for the winter. Trollius is a hardy perennial and can stay in the ground.

I am not familiar with Stars of India (achimenes).
