ok , I read the care page and have one question - what is a requirement for light for potted fig while in winter storage? If I keep it in basement at temp 50-60F in an area where the light is on occationally - say a workshop or my office area - will that work? or does it need certain number of hours to light? and can it be just regular light from a ceiling fixture?

In dormancy fig plant need no light at all , its encouraged to keep light off it by placing a old bed sheet, blanket etc over it. Little light from garage door opening or being turned on by hand to do something in garage will not wake it up and is ok. 50-60 degree's is to warm for dormancy although plant will lose the leaves eventually because the lack of light it will not be fully dormant.
Good temperatures are 25 to 40F for dormancy i have had mine in garage in much colder temps than 25 but thats another story for another thread .
On another note fig plants do not need a long dormancy, here in my climate they get 5 months of it at least if not more.
