Late Bloomers

I still am having some beauties: Some new, some rebloom. I worked so long (7PM Tesaday to 1:PM Wedsnesday, that I was alittle punchy last night. And everything was heat touched, but a few weren't bothered much:

Bear Claw:

Teresa, My Best Friend:

Stargazer Lily:

And today, I was pleased with Delayed Arrival:

Spiderman (on rebloom)

Water Drops (on rebloom)

And (with blueberries picked almost 3 quarts again today))

Filled to Overflowing:

I may post a few more:

Love Delayed Arrival! Think I need a Spiderman too.

Some great pics. I like Bear Claws with the background; and Delayed Arrival was certainly worth waiting for.

That is the best Bear Claw so far, it really looks good. Lillies look extra good and so does Delayed Arrival. I pick Delayed Arrival as my favorite today. My Teresa, My Best Friend hasn't bloomed yet but it should soon.

Bear Claws is looking good. Spiderman just had its last bloom here, hope it reblooms. Delayed Arrival is my favorite, with Filled to Overflowing close 2nd.
Yum, blueberries. Mine are still not quite ripe, but any day now.

Delayed Arrival is my favorite with Water Drops not far behind.

Filled to Overflowing looks like it is describing your abundance of blueberries:) The picture really compliments both the daylily and the blueberries. Very nice!

ngrahanm, I admit to being tired of picking blueberries since no one else here picks them, but they are very good. Thanks for looking and commenting. Bear Claws may have to be moved since it has may not be getting enoug sun. I do love that one. Overflowing is one of Karol's prettiest one to me, and Delayed Arrival is a reliable late bloomer.

Vickie, I do love Water Drops, and it is a new one this year and already rebloomed. Thanks to both of you for looking.

Humm, tired of picking blueberries as your the only one? I have to beat the Catbirds to mine as they go in there and scafe them down all day long.

    Rita,
a little griping since DH sits on his tush. The cardinals eat a few, but not many. and it needs to be done every day...I have severnteen quarts in the freezer, and I've made muffins five times and a cobbler once. Yeah, I am a little tired, but I can't stand to let them ruin. I amy make jam next week.

You must not have catbirds. Catbirds love to eat blueberries. I do love the catbirds so I don't complain. But there are lots of serviceberries here for them to eat and they eat those too. I guess they were extra hungry this year as they did nest in my big overgrown boxwood and fledge four cute babies.

At least the house wrens don't eat the blueberies as they are nesting again. First clutch fledged out of the slotbox house in the front yard and now they moved to a pretty blue birdhouse in my sideyard that no one has ever used before. Nest building again and Mrs spends lots of time inside.

I have wrens in front and in back. The bluebirds are fledging their third brood. You would think he bluebirds would eat blueberries...they are supposed to like fruit.

The Bradford pear trees are home to cardinals, and thrashers. The mockingbirds seem to like the big rose bush. and the goldfinches are staying in the zinnias a lot.

Ms. hummingbird runs off all other hummers and tries to run the goldfinches off too. I love to watch them all

I love to watch the backyard songbirds too. Long before I started with the current crazies I was planting my yard with fruiting shrubs for food and cover to bring in the birds. It really worked as it has been many years now and all big and the birds love the shrub border. I put up bird houses too. Have had chickadees nesting here each spring for seven years, the house wrens about 5 years. I am sure that another pair of house wrens would love to be here but my pair drives others away each spring. Guess the yard is not big enough for two nesting pairs of house wrens.

House wrens huh? We had feeders at the other house, including a platform feeder outside a window. I could slide the window open, stick out my hand holding sunflower seeds, and the birds (pine siskins, goldfinches, and an occasional odd one or other would light in my hand. I haven't even seen a single house wren at this house.

I miss feeding them, but with all the cats (including three we claim) the birds might be just eating on a baited field and becoming supper.

But I do plant for the birds, and I think I will plant a firethorn bush (pyrecantha) if I can sneak it past DH. It has wonderful blooms and berries that the birds love: I've see a flock of cedar waxwings settle in to eat those berries. For some reason or other, he didn't care for the thorns

The winner!!! DELAYED ARRIVAL!!! But hey, they are all nice. Mockingbirds started eating our blueberries this season--will have to net our one dwarf bush next year. Avedon

oH I like BEAR CLAW. That is pretty. You must have a lot of blueberry bushes or some extra large ones, to be getting all them blueberries.I have 2 small bushes now.Got one small one last year and another small one this year..I probably got one full cup of blueberries off them.I ate them off the bush as they turned blue.Sure was good, while they lasted.

I've never had problems with birds stealing my blueberries, but this year I'm seeing more crows than I have ever seen. We've got some cardinals too, but they don't seem to bother them. If the crows compete, we may tangle, I'm not fond of those crows anyway. My blueberry bushes are just getting big enough to produce nicely, although I don't think they have as many as they did last year. I still have about a gallon of blueberries in the freezer so I'll really have to start cooking soon. It may be a year or 2 before you really get blueberries Jean, but the bushes start to get quite large & can produce a lot. I read that they need to be pruned properly to produce well, I need to read up on that.

Delayed Arrival is my pick it's stunning.

Can't choose between DELAYED ARRIVAL and WATER DROPS. Your yard sure sounds lovely with all the birds.

We have five bushes that are about four years old and two larger ones that are seven years old and one small one that had blueberries, but they dried up on the bush. I am definitely not letting them get any taller.

Thanks you all for commenting, Casey, Linda, Val, Ellie, and Avedon, Delayed Arrival is the prettiest I remember it ever being.

Jean and Ellie, I really love Bear Claws it is a huge bloom too and seems to have a thicker than usual consitency.

Casey and Val, I was very surprised that Water Drops rebloomed since this is its first year (planted in the fall).

ngraham, mockingbirds are one thing, crows another. I don't care for crows either, and they are smart! Casey, I love to sit and watch and listen to birds. I will have Goldfinch pictures either Saturday or sunday (have to work tonight, so depends on when I get up tomorrow...took the pics this afternoon).
