lily beetle larvae???

I was/am visiting my sister who lives close to the Manitoba/North Dakota border. We, of course, had to go through her gardens/flowerbeds.

We found on the chinese lantern a black larvae eating the leaves. Extensive research on google led us to believing that they might be lily beetle larvae because they are the right color and they also put their excretment on their backs. They look similar to the potato beetle larvae in shape only. They are about 1/3 the size of the Colorado potato beetle larvae. We did not see any adult beetles on the lilies or larvae on my sister's many lilies.

Question...does anyone know of any other larvae that puts its excretment on its back? We are hoping so because we do not want the lily beetle at her place.
