I use drip irrigation only for my garden. This is a DIY and fairly inexpensive project.

You can buy 50 ft rolls of the hose and punch in the drips where you want them. (Make sure you get the tool to punch the holes as it isn't easy to do without one.) Place the hose where you want it and cover with mulch (to prevent the hose from heating up in the sun). You can use T connectors if you want to branch off in different directions. You'll need a terminator to slip on the end.

On your faucet, attach a Y connector so that you can attach a timer to one arm and you have the other arm for water/hose if you need it. The timers are battery operated and easy to set for frequency, duration, etc.

I have one on a front faucet for the cottage flowers and one on the back faucet for a lot of shrubs and trees. I run those on different days in the mornings. We are on a well.

Pagan, I don't know where you live, but I can imagine here in Atlanta in 5-10 years people will not be able to use automatic watering systems or sprinkler systems because water is short. I have rain barrels and am getting a water collection system when I can afford it and then solar pumps to use in a watering system we build.

Consider your future, and where you live. It's no use putting something in you don't need. It sounds like you really don't need it now.
