Color and stripes. You have a lot of vertical/horizontal lines around the firelplace playing with the eye. Investigate removing the vertical boards or paint vertical stripes with one repition being the boards width. Paint horizontal stripes the width of 2 fireplace tiles. There are over 15,000 images of stripes on this site. Paint from the edge of the left window to the edge of the right window. Carry over one of the colors to the panel on your island. Move the pole lamp to where the black table is, place a flat basket or tray on your ottoman to support drinks. Large picture(s) in black frame(s) to balance out the TV/fireplace opening. Color.

I think the first thing to do would be to paint the room. The color you have doesn't go with the carpet it appears too yellow. Try a sage green. Then add some curtains even plain white sheers would look great with green. Maybe sconces on the walls on either side of the fireplace. Then a painting on the wall or a large vase with flowers or even some large plants. You may want to consider removing the uprights on the fireplace and the tile. Then replace the tile with a darker color or a stacked stone and put it on the entire lower fireplace.
Center the sofa, move it away from the windows. Either use the long ottoman in front of the sofa or use it for a window seat under the window. Remove the extra ottomans. Add some colorful throws and pillows and you're done.

The color of the Wall is actually a light brown Dusty Trail D13-3 by Olympic. The window is drafty in the winter and gets all day sun in summer so we were going put up thermal drapes. What color? The torchiere lamp is going to go. I think it's hideous

For the fireplace, I actually like the idea of a collection of vases. Build off the one you have by adding others in varying sizes, and textures. It would add a sculptural element and not be so predictable. Something like below. I really like the idea of installing lighting to feature the collection.



For drapes I can see dove grey. You may want to consider an area rug to further define the seating area. It will also be a good way to introduce some color if you're interested in doing that.

Ok gray drapes with what kind of curtain rod, type or metal? I don't have a picture in my head of what the room will look like...that is what's keeping me from doing anything. It took 6 years to paint the wall. LOL

I'd go with nickel in a simple straight forward design - no fancy flourishes or details.

Well, as to wall color If you go for gray drapes you could go with a darker gray for the walls or vice versa darker gray curtains & It appears that the carpeting is gray. However, I still think sage green would work better than gray with white drapes.

Sorry hate green, sage green anyway. There's alot of blue accents in the flooring in the bathrooms which I also want to get ride of. Still not sure about accent tables. The Parson table is ugly. I bought a nickel arch lamp with a white shade for lighting. Still need a place to put drinks and books

I think the arch lamp was a good call. For a coffee table, you might want to think about one with a shelf below for books, a basket for remotes, etc. I like the looks of something along these lines for your space.



And for a side table something like these. I like that that the silver or mirroring echoes the floor lamp you chose as well as the nickle curtain rods.





Have you thought about an arm chair? Or area rug to add some texture/color/pattern?

why dont you introduce wallpaper above the mantle with a mirror on it or wall art that will be the focal point, introduce area rug and throw pillow in a preferred accent colour that will inject life into the space. i love your sectional

I think you should have a piece off art above the mantel - art can be a painting or high definition photography. I think since you have brown couches it would be good to add color. I would purchase your art prior to buying other items b/c sometimes it is hard to decide on art that you really love. You want it to be something you LOVE! I personally find photography very uplifting b/c it takes me to great places. Some people decorate their rooms with a theme too; so you should decide if you want to do that. I personally do not like the dull manufactured things you see in the stores like Bed, Bath and Beyond etc- just ho hum. I would like you to check out Etsy.com b/c you can buy attractive home decor as well as other items for not a lot of money. If you are not familiar with it, it is a website for artisans and craftsman throughout the US, Canada and the world. You can type what you are interested in in the search engine. For instance, photography Paris, painting Paris, photography horse and so on. They also have cushions, coasters lots of items you may need. You can easily contact any shop owner and they a lot of times can customize things for you. I have a photography shop, nancyhehmann. But I also used to own rental property and flip property. Once you get the main focal point for your room - no matter where you buy it. I would pull a color from the piece to choose draperies and other decorator items from. I would measure the area above the mantel too before deciding on the art b/c you dont want it to look to wimpy. You could also cut out a piece of newspaper the correct size and hang it and stand back and look. You might not be able to find something the exact measurement but you can probably come close.

Since you need many items, you may want to go to Marshall's home decor store b/c they have great items at discount prices. I dont know if they are close outs are what. They have paintings, rugs, tables and lamps. It is like a treasure hunt. I like white lamps with black shades, or nickel (stainless) look.
For tables, consider substantial ones with your leather. I like wood combinations with iron. I have some with slate tops and wood around from Haverty's.

If you do drapes, I would make sure the rod is not skimpy looking. Should have a fairly round diameter. Lowes and Home Depot have nice ones. Also, you can check out JC Penney - they have a website with more on there.

Also, for a nice vase for your mantel, you might want to check out Blenko glass they have a website with handblown glass. It is one of the few places left in the US that does have handblown glass and could be an heirloom as well as very attractive.

I think your paint color is fine if you add color accessories. Do a little at a time as you find YOUR treasures.

I also would choose the draperies or shades after I find the art. It just makes it easier to take it a step at a time.

I think I'd move the couch center to the television. That way you can flow into room on both sides of sofa. If you put floor to ceiling curtains on the windows will cozy up the space and provide some pattern. something like these maybe? Or with an accent color you like.
