Evening Primrose Oil is supposed to be good for menopausal symptoms. I've tried it, but it makes me feel ill. So i won't be eating any of this! :)

No, Oenothera biennis is not invasive by roots. The first year there is only a rosette of basal leaves and a stalk with alternate leaves. The second year the plant flowers. Next year after it flowers, leave only one or two stalks and cut the rest down, otherwise then it will readily reseed itself which can be considered invasive.

It seems to have runners, Sharon. That's what i was concerned about - whether or not they should be cut off. I'm pretty sure there's only two plants there, three at the most. They were pretty small when i planted them last month, but they really took off once in the ground. I like the looks of it, though. :)

No, the roots are not runners, they have tap roots. They may look like theyÂre spreading, it's just the leaves that are ascending or spreading. DonÂt worry, itÂs a biennial, it will die after flowering. ItÂs the self-seeding that makes it invasive, each plant can produce about 6,000 seed which are wind dispersed for greater distance of travel.

It's not the best looking plant btw, I've pulled mine out ;)

Ah, well, it looks okay right now. Maybe next summer, i'll take the seed pods and spread seed along the road. I did that with some California poppies last week and i hope they grow - would be pretty. :)
