    Tom,
I am going to say you have leaf streak not rust. The test for rust is to take a tissue and wipe the leaf.If it has a rusty orange powder on it, you have rust.Your pics look more like leaf streak to me.Go to the AHS Dictionary and click on rust and leaf streak and compare the pics to your leaves.

Here is a link that might be useful: AHS Dictionary

I think Betsy is right. I don't see any spore pustules which would indicate rust. Looks like the area might be staying too wet.

TOM I CANT TELL BY PIC, BUT YES YOU HAVE SOME SICK PLANTS I CAN TELL YOU HOW TO CHECK FOR RUST THAT MAY HELP. TAKE A PAPER TOWEL OR TOILET PAPER TAKE ONE OF YOUR LEAVES FROM YOUR PLANT ,PULL YOUR LIEF THROUGH THE PAPER, IF IT LEAVES A YELLOW OR ORANGE STAIN THAT IS A GOOD INDICATION YOU HAVE RUST ABOUT THE REST OF YOUR PLANTS CUT THE BAD LEAVES OFF GIVE THEM A DOSE OF 10-10-10 AND WATER THEN GIVE THEM TIME,

Seems like mine looked like that one year but not quite that bad and it was due to spider mites. Spider Mites are prolific during droughts. They have mite sprays out there but generally if you have regular rainfall they go away or at least to the point where they do not distress you or the plants. Those plants are very distressed right now. You may even have some Leaf Streak thrown in there as well. Look at some of the greener leaves on the underside and if you see any webbing, you have the spider mites. If no rain, just blast the plant with a garden hose on a regular basis. Right now the important thing is to get that plant healthy again. Look at the AHS dictionary at the link above.

The primary problem is drought. Leaf streak. Rust creates orange puffs. --As far as I can tell from pics. I would cut scapes from plants struggling that much.

You would know if you have rust. Looks like fluffy orange pollen all over. Had it last year for the first time ever...no doubt when I saw it. I'm sure it came in on some new plants.

Stressed plants are more prone to diseases and problems. A healthy strong plant is able to fight off things.

Another suggestion is to take samples to your local extension office...and have your soil tested. Never hurts.

I'm trying to remember when I saw rust last year. This seems early. There's probably a thread here somewhere.

If it's just in one area (kinda looks like the ones around on the sides are greener), you could have a soil issue.

Just suggestions. Good luck and I hope they recover well for you.

    I really don't think that's rust.

I had one or two that looked similar several years ago and found that the neighbors dog was mistaking them for a fire hydrant. Could be the same for you.

Thanks for the help. When it stops raining I'll check it. It has been raining off and on for 7 straight days and thats why the area looks wet. Our area has had about a 2 month drought. The picture I took was of just one area in one bed. I have areas in all my beds that have a simular problem. Thanks again.
