I'm sorry I can't help you. My sister-in-law has one and sent me wonderful jelly for Christmas, plus she says the birds love them. The problem is that she's in Utah. But it sounds like a wonderful plant. Good Luck.

Are you talking about Prunus serotina or Prunus virginiana? We have Prunus serotina galore around here and seedlings are quite common. I'm not sure about P. virginiana, however.

I too have plenty of the serotina, I was wanting to get the virginiana. It is supposed to be a great bird attractor and a great creek bank stabilizer. Thanks for your replies, any others?

It also is supposed to be great for birds and stablizing stream banks.

I called Baker Evvironmental and they only do wholesale.I have decided to order chokecherry, chokeberry, and american bittersweet fron Coldstream Farm in Michigan. I do have chokeberry (now goes by the name Photinia pyrifolia) - that is a colonial shrub and it does pop up here and there around the main plant. Best way to transplant is to sever the roots but leave the plant in the ground for a few months while the separated plant adjusts to the separation. Then come back later and dig it up. Or if you do dig it up, apply a little root hormone to the severed root to encourage new growth.

Thanks again, does anyone know if chokeberry can be used for jams and jellies as chokecherry can. I try to plant for wildlife but being useful to humans is a plus.
