Chiritas
I know at least some of you grow chiritas, and I'm wondering what you do about suckers. When I first started growing some of them I always took all the suckers off like I would an African Violet, but then Jon Dixon said he found that at least some of them do much better when you let the suckers grow. I don't remember if he was just talking about C.sp.'New York', which may have been the only one I had at that time, or about chiritas in general. I let my 'New York' go and it has been stunning (except for a time last fall when I was grooming it and a horrible evil cat decided he needed to be petted right then and jumped up on it and busted it and its pot into about forty pieces!) It's in full bloom right now. But C. spadiciformis is ALL suckers, and that can't possibly lead to blooms. Several others are making suckers and buds, but the buds never seem to progress. Seems like maybe I should de-sucker 'em, but I'm not sure. What do you do?
