Wooly Thyme doesn't like to be wet all the time. I actually can only grow it in one place. It likes it not too wet, and not FRYING hot - so I have it in AM full-sun and mid-day shade, later PM sun....and it's pretty much growing on a rock.
Plain old creeping thyme does well, so does a type called "archer's thyme" it's golden.

Thanks. I plan to wait a week or two to see if the thyme comes back. If not, I may try to dig a drain into the lower end of the entranceway to make sure it's not filling up with water.
The area gets foot traffic and a few hours of some pretty intense afternoon sun. If I replant, should I stick with Wooly Thyme,or will some other plant do better?

Perhaps a different kind of thyme such as golden, or golden oregano, or phlox subulata - I use all three of these for ground covers along the sidewalk and they do incredibly well.

Mazus, Mondo Grass, and Irish Moss stay put better.

I may have found my answer. I noticed that the thyme plants on the edges of the walkway seem to have survived. I was out of town last Friday and returned Monday evening. I was told that the temperature reached 90 degrees over the weekend. Since I wasn't there to water them, I'm pretty sure the Wooly Thyme simply cooked to death.
