For the soggy area, how about foam flower (Tiarella)? We find it in very damp conditions on natural areas (it doesn't require it but it can take it). You don't say if it is a sunny area or not. I assume the area in front of the daylilies is sunny though since you have daylilies there.

sugarhill, can you post pictures of the edging? We've tried several kinds and I haven't been too happy with any of them.

I too am very curious as to what this edging looks like. I guess I will have to come over and take some pictures of your edging for you since I assume you probably still don't have a digital camera. It will cost you though; you will have to let me play with Molly. ;)
What about Georgia Blue Veronica in front of the day lilies? Or there are so many beautiful heucheras available, or heucherellas they have a wonderful selection of both at No Longer Bound. BTW we missed you at the trade.

Buford, Kathy was right - I don't have a camera. You can't live too far from me, so you're welcome to come by too. You can even play with Molly (assuming you like to play with goofy dogs - it's not a requirement).

It's very simple edging. You've seen the green metal edges that people drive in the ground around their islands and flower beds to separate the beds from the lawn. Same thing except it's fiberglass instead of metal.

To answer esh's question: yes, the soggy border is also shady. In a way, so is the daylily border, but it gets enough sun to keep daylilies happy. It's just not full sun.

To ask Kathy another question (or anyone else who knows) - what soil conditions does veronica need? I've never had much luck with veronica after the first year. What about nepeta? How tall does Walker's low get? Would it be low enough to go in front of the border?

Sugarhill, my Georgia blue veronica as well as a few other veronicas are mostly planted in full sun in a well-drained, mulched bed. They seem to stay happy as long as they get regular watering especially during summer. I have a couple Sunny Border Blues in part sun that are also happy. The Walker's Low catmint is also planted in similar conditions and does quite well. It easily gets up to around 2 feet tall. Not sure why "Low" is in the name. It does look beautiful in the front of a border if a taller shrub is behind it but it will probably hide your daylily fans.
