Why did my daffodils get so tall?

I planted 50 Ice Follies and 50 Carlton last fall in the front of my beds in front of my house. I was looking at a new bulb magazine that just came, and it says both grow 16-18". Well, mine are 28-30". The bulbs were huge and healthy and I heavily ammended the beds with compost and fertilizer and tilled it in, so is that the reason? Can I expect them to stay this tall in future years? They really are too tall where they are now, as my Stella daylillies planted behind them, which are just starting to bloom, are completely hidden. I realize the foliage will die down soon, but right now it is still green and healthy. I hate to have to move them, but they are way too tall now.
