I did not have luck here, but we had beautiful broccoli at church. The difference was our soil. At church we planted in very deeply raised beds in almost solid compost. Man it was delicious stuff!

I grew six broccoli plants in Earthboxes this spring. I started from seed also, and transplanted them starting at end of February. Heads formed and we were able to start harvesting end April which was on schedule for the seeds I used. Tasted good.

As soon as the sun started getting stronger in late April, early part of May the plants really started slowing down, looking stressed. I had looked forward to lots of side chutes after harvesting the main head and it didn't happen. Also had problems with aphids of all things. I tried growing last spring in the regular garden and they didn't do well for me either. Best luck I have had so far is fall planting.

Sometimes I think I should just give up on growing broccoli.
